Good with annoying features
I like that the first click always opens the board up. This is great in that you can start a new game instantly rather than with all other minesweeper versions Ive tried, you have to keep trying squares and keep restarting until you find an opening rather than a mine. The interface is clean and tidy which is very nice too.
I dont like it how the game doesnt let you stop the clock in any way if you need to pause for a moment while on the way to a better speed time. Even if you put your computer to sleep it still logs those minutes while your computer was off towards your completion time.
A lot of time gets wasted when the field freezes and it doesnt let you reveal any squares until you go and flag and then unflag a square. This sometimes doesnt work right away and you have to flag and unflag and flag and unflag squares before you can start revealing squares again. This is very annoying especially when you get a few bouts of these in a row.
It would be very welcome if there was another alternative to flagging squares other than using the secondary click. You can do 50 two-finger secondary clicks successfully but that 51st time when the computer thinks you clicked with just one finger, the board blows up. Many games are lost this way unless you use the control-click method but that only works if youre happy playing with your right hand on the trackpad all the time. If you want to use your left hand you have to cross your right arm over your left arm to reach the control key. Allowing for keyboard input would make this game more physically comfortable to play.
I also am puzzled why this game takes up as much processor power as it does. I have more than enough RAM and a half decent processor and it uses it up enough that the fans fire up a little. This game ran smoother on my old 386 in 1992.
Tracking high scores in the 30x24 mode would be excellent.
